Committee Chair Responsibilities

RULES COMITTEE - EDWIN KESLER. The Rules Committee shall provide necessary liaison with the Hollin Hall Senior Center Director, the Fairfax Department of Recreation, and other governmental entities which may have regulations and policies which may impact on the Society. The Committee shall conduct an ongoing review of the Society’s bylaws and recommend necessary changes. The Chairperson shall be responsible for advising the President and the Board of Directors of the interpretation and application of the Bylaws and serves as a parliamentarian and/or Sergeant at Arms.

Amy Breedlove
TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMITTEE - AMY BREEDLOVE. The Training and Education Committee shall encourage, promote and provide for the training of the Society’s members in adherence to the principles of accuracy and thoroughness in research, careful documentation and scholarly authorship. To accomplish this end, the committee shall develop, coordinate, promote and present an annual series of courses and classes on relevant topics; coordinate and promote the attendance of Society members at educational classes, courses, symposia, and conferences offered by local and national genealogical organizations; and perform such other tasks and services relating to training and education matters as shall from time to time be ordered by the Board of Directors.
 
RESEARCH LIBRARY COMMITTEE - GERRY WARD. The Research Library Committee shall establish and maintain a library of bound and electronic genealogical materials and a computer facility to provide access to genealogical software applications to aid members in the identification and compilation of data on their ancestry. Such genealogical materials, purchased by the Society or contributed by members and organizations shall consist of books, periodicals, journals, pamphlets, surname files, family group sheets, microfilm, CDs, and DVDs. Subscriptions and internet access to Ancestry.com, Fold3, FamilySearch.org and other such general applications for the computers shall be maintained in a fully operational status. Bound resources of the Library, as well as, CDs, DVDs, and microfilm, shall be maintained in searchable and published form in catalogs by Subject, Title, and Author. Many of these may be loaned to members. Library and computer assistants shall be available during Library open hours.

PUBLICITY COMMITTEE - VACANT. The Publicity Committee shall keep the members and local community aware of the Society’s monthly meetings through distribution of flyers to libraries and other genealogical repositories, and by such other means as will provide information on the Society and its monthly programs. 
 
NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE - LEO DOUGHERTY. The Webmaster functions under the Publicity Committee Chairperson, and with input from the Board of Directors, designs and maintains all elements of the Society website and related Internet activity including updating content. The Webmaster budget shall appear as a separate and distinct line item in the Publicity Committee budget.
 
 
 
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES CHAIRMAN - SUSAN JETER.  Special activities is responsible for planning and overseeing the execution of all special programs, projects and functions as well as collecting data for evaluation related to those programs. The Hospitality Chair reports to the Special Activities Chair.  The Special Activities Chairman shall be responsible for leading, planning and execution of MVGS’ annual conference, the annual holiday party and special projects as directed.
