| The purpose of the Society is to encourage the affiliation of persons interested in the pursuit of their ancestral heritage and to promote fellowship and cooperation among them. To genealogical research methodology and adherence to standards of accuracy and thoroughness in genealogical research. To provide a forum for the sharing of knowledge gained by individual members in their own research, and to collect, preserve, and disseminate genealogical, biographical and historical knowledge and information. |

| Dues Annual dues are for each calendar year are $20 for an individual and $25 for a family. |
| TAX INFORMATION: Contributions to the Society are tax deductible. Dues are deductible if they are a legitimate business expense. |

| PRESIDENT - The President is responsible for administering the business of the Society and exercising direction consistent with Society Bylaws. The President is the official spokesman of the Society, and is responsible for calling and presiding at all meetings of the Society and the Board of Directors. |

| 1st VICE PRESIDENT, PROGRAMS - The 1st Vice President, Programs, performs all of the duties of the President in the absence of the President, or vacancy of the office of the President, and coordinates with other affected committees to schedule all membership meetings, programs, guest speakers, and events, and makes arrangements necessary rooms and equipment, and the set up of equipment. |

| 2nd VICE PRESIDENT, MEMBERSHIP - The 2nd Vice President, Membership, performs all of the duties of the President in the absence of the President and the 1st Vice President, Programs. The 2nd Vice President, Membership is responsible for maintaining records of all active members and prepares rosters and membership materials for distribution. Additional responsibilities include oversight for Hospitality, to include greeting, recording of attendance, refreshments, and assisting newcomers with applications for membership |
| SECRETARY - The Secretary is responsible for preparing the minutes of the Board of Directors’ meetings and the Society’s meetings and maintains other permanent records and a current inventory of the property of the Society. The Secretary presides at Society meetings in the absence of the President and both Vice Presidents. |
| TREASURER - The Treasurer collects all Society dues and other money received by the Society, administers the Society bank account as the Board of Directors may designate. The Treasurer makes disbursements on behalf of the Society, prepares the annual budget and financial statement for the Society. |
| Committee Chairs |
| COMPUTER SERVICES COMMITTEE - The Computer Services Committee Chairperson plans and coordinates all projects of the Society requiring significant computer support. This includes maintaining the computers in the library in an operational status, acquisition of all computer software and maintaining all of the Society’s databases and other computer based information systems. The committee chairperson also creates and coordinates a Computer Users Group of members of the Society. |
| FINANCIAL REVIEW AND AUDIT COMMITTEE - The Financial Review and Audit Committee Chairperson is responsible for fiscal analysis, recommends fiscal policies to the Board, and conducts the annual audit of the Society’s accounts. |
| HISTORY COMMITTEE - The History Committee Chairperson prepares short, specific historical studies; writes longer, analytical histories, and oversees the maintenance of the Society's historical documents, and responds to enquiries pertaining to the Society's history. |
| AWARDS COMMITTEE - The Awards Committee Chairperson, operating under the guidance and approval of the Society’s Board of Directors, establishes and maintains a program of awards to deserving members of the Society and to non-members who have made significant contributions to the Society. |
| LIBRARY COMMITTEE - The Library Committee Chairperson establishes and maintains a library of genealogical materials for members' use. Such materials consist of indexes and catalogues, books, periodicals, pamphlets, and other materials purchased by the Society or contributed by members and other organizations. The Library Committee Chairperson provides assistance to members in the completion of Ancestor Charts and advice as to further steps to obtain additional family information. |
| NEWSLETTER COMMITTEE - The Newsletter Committee Chairperson publishes and distributes a newsletter to Society members and other genealogical and interested organizations, to inform them of Society activities and other matters of genealogical interest. |
| PUBLICITY COMMITTEE - The Publicity Committee Chairperson keeps Society members and local communities aware of the Society’ s activities and monthly meetings through distribution of flyers to libraries and other genealogical repositories and by such other means as will provide information on the Society and its monthly programs. The Webmaster functions under the Publicity Committee Chairperson, and, with input from the Board of Directors, maintains all elements of the Society website and related Internet activity including coding and updating content. |
| RULES COMMITTEE - The Rules Committee Chairperson conducts an ongoing review of the Society’s bylaws and recommends necessary changes when needed; is responsible for advising the President and the Board of the interpretation and application of the Bylaws and serves as a parliamentarian and/or Sergeant at Arms. |
| SERVICE COMMITTEE - The Service Committee Chairperson plans and coordinates projects that will enhance an interest and knowledge in genealogical matters and assist not only members of the Society but also others from afar who may be seeking information available in the Mount Vernon area. TRAINING AND EDUCATION COMMITTEE - The Training and Education Committee Chairperson develops, coordinates, promotes, and presents an annual series of courses and classes on relevant genealogical topics, and coordinates and promotes the attendance of Society members at educational classes, courses, symposia, and conferences offered by local and national genealogical organizations. |
